Nefyn & District Golf Club is one of the most distinctive golfing experiences anywhere in the world. The jaw dropping setting runs right along the cliff tops that overlook Porthdinllaen Bay, with a few holes playing right out towards the Irish Sea.
Nefyn can be found on the north west coast of Wales, and its dramatic surroundings are only the second most notable feature of this golf course. Nefyn is a twenty-six hole golf course, with players playing the first ten holes, before being greeted with a choice of which closing eight they wish to embark upon.
The quirky layout has created two very different finishes to your round at Nefyn. The traditional old course plays right out to the cliff’s edges, with the back eight home to some of the most beautiful views anywhere in golf. While driving out towards the ocean is enjoyable, the experience of actually putting on the greens that have stretched far out into the sea is a truly thrilling experience.
The New course essentially comprises the alternate back eight holes. It makes it a different course entirely, with the layout following the inland contours of the landscape. There are some great holes to play on the new back eight, but the eighteenth hole in particular offers wonderful panoramic views of the entire golf course.
Playing a round at Nefyn is an incredible golfing experience, regardless of which closing holes you choose to play. The split can catch out first time players, so make sure and enquire about directions at the front desk. The spectacular views will make the minor confusion pale into insignificance.
