Ashburnham Golf Club is one of the most complete links golf courses in all of Wales. Located on the water’s edge in the south-west of Wales, this golf course prides itself on offering a complex but thrilling round of links golf, with one of the finest runs of holes to be found anywhere in the United Kingdom.
Ashburnham is deceptive to the eye. The first two holes are a relative amble, and offer little preparation or warning for the challenges that lie ahead. From hole three onwards, there are at least a dozen fierce holes ahead, with classic blind shots, high sandy dunes and raised and sloping greens. The course is just a hair’s breadth under 7000 yards, ensuring this course will test players of all abilities.
The length of Asburnham, when played at championship distance, creates some par fours of significant distance, such as the 9th and the 15th. With testing yardage, it is imperative to find the fairways, as high velocity recovery shots are known to be few and far between. The only true advantage of winding up in the rough off the tee is some outstanding coastal views from upon the mounds of dunes.
This consummate links test is played out against the sweeping gusts of winds, in the typical links conditions you would expect. This is golf in its natural setting, with no primping or preening of the holes, because it is wholly unnecessary. Ashburnham simply plays out in its natural glory.
