The historic Killeen Castle was built in 1181 by Hugh de Lacy. In 1997 the 600 acre estate and castle were bought by the current owners who painstakingly restored the Castle to its original splendor. Located just 35 minutes from Dublin City and only 30 minutes from Dublin Airport, Killeen Castle is home to one of the only two Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses in Ireland.
The owners had a vision to create a world class golf course on the historic lands which would integrate the natural features of the undulating meadowlands, tree clusters, ditches, local rivers and the archaeological finds which were uncovered during the construction phase. Work commenced in 2004, and was completed in 2008 (Jack visited his work in hand on 9 occasions).
The Jack Nicklaus Signature Course is designed for the modern golfer, and is suitable for golfers of all abilities: varied tees; championship undulating greens provide a challenge for the average golfer; generous fairways and greens are designed for high hitting approach shots. Each hole has its own unique feature, and all are instantly memorable. Voted Best Parkland Course in the greater Dublin area.
