The Celtic Manor Resort is home to three wonderful championship golf courses in the south of Wales. This top golfing destination in Wales is located just a short drive from Cardiff, and is very accessible. With such prestigious courses on offer, no golfing trip to Wales is complete without a visit to Celtic Manor.
The Montgomerie Course was designed by former Ryder Cup winning captain, Colin Montgomerie. Montgomerie has always been very outspoken on how he feels the game of golf should be played, and the qualities he preaches are very much in evidence here. Set in splendid woodland, this course features lavish green fairways that roll on and on to the green, thick and testing rough that gets thicker the further off line the ball is, and pot bunkers that need a delicate touch to navigate. The Montgomerie course plays as a parkland course with links principles, in a masterful amalgamation.
This 6371 yard course is a fine complement to the other two courses at Celtic Manor. Having only opened in 2007, there is a wonderful freshness to this course, with the dramatic hilly landscape offering many stunning scenes from the tee boxes, aiming for the lavish fairways.
The Montgomerie course forces you to use every club in the bag at some point on your round, as sure a sign as any that it is a comprehensive golfing test. The old master has set out a splendid set of challenges for players to take on here, and abiding by traditional links principles is the way to thrive.
