Pyle and Kenfig

One of the most storied and illustrious golf clubs in Wales, Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club has been a heavyweight on the Welsh golfing scene since its formation in 1919. Simply known as the P&K, this historic golf club has been influenced by many of the great golfing minds of the twentieth century, most notably Harry S. Colt, whose re-design from the 1920s still forms the courses basic layout today.
The course is laid out in two loops of nine holes, with two very different experiences over each of them. The front nine is the heathland that many regulars to Welsh golf will have come to expect. It gives a feel of a gentle woodland walk as you proceed, exploring the majority of Colts holes that remain intact.
The back nine really is something special, however. The land rides over the dunes, giving it more of a traditional links feel. The panoramic views are very much on display here, with the Gower Peninsula and Welsh Mountains visible, and the back nine is as pleasing on the eye as it is stimulating to the brain.
Elevated tees, dog legs, ridges and planning will all need to be mastered to register a good score on the back nine. Reckless shots without considering your approach will leave you in impossible positions. The back nine here is a real brain teaser, and players who enjoy a contemplative challenge and can overcome their visceral temptations will find Pyle and Kenfig a masterful golfing experience.
